3. **Application**: Students will identify ways they can be a positive influence in their communities.
---
#### Materials Needed:
- Bible (Matthew 5:14-16)
- Whiteboard and markers
- Flashlight or candle
- Worksheets with coloring sections
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Poster board and markers for group activity
---
#### Lesson Outline:
1. **Opening Activity (5 minutes)**
- Greet the students and open with a short prayer.
- Introduce the topic by turning off the lights in the classroom and turning on a flashlight or lighting a candle. Ask the students what it feels like to be in the dark vs. having light.
2. **Introduction (10 minutes)**
- Read Matthew 5:14-16 aloud to the students:
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
- Discuss the meaning of the scripture. Ask students what they think it means to be "the light of the world."
3. **Main Lesson (15 minutes)**
- Explain how Christians are called to shine their light by doing good deeds, being kind, telling the truth, and helping others.
- Show examples from everyday life where people can be a light: sharing with friends, helping parents at home, being honest, and standing up for what's right.
- Interactive discussion: Ask students to share their own ideas on how they can be a light in their families, schools, and neighborhoods.
4. **Activity (10 minutes)**
- Hand out worksheets with a light bulb outline or any related theme. Have students color the picture and write down one way they can be a light this week.
- Divide the class into small groups. Each group will create a poster illustrating different ways to be a positive influence. Encourage creativity with drawings and words. Display the posters around the classroom.
5. **Conclusion (5 minutes)**
- Recap the lesson by asking students to share their colored pictures and ideas from the poster activity.
- Encourage students to put their ideas into practice during the coming week.
- Close with a prayer thanking God for the opportunity to be a light to others and asking for His help to shine brightly in their lives.
---
#### Assessment:
- Participation in discussion and activities.
- Completion and creativity of worksheets and group posters.
- Observation of students’ ability to articulate how they can be the light of the world.
---
#### Follow-Up:
- Next class, share stories of how students acted as a light during the week.
- Optionally, create a “light wall” where students can add sticky notes of their good deeds and experiences throughout the term.
